Mastering Page Range Syntax
When using the PDF Splitter tool on PDFCompress Pro, you can specify exactly which pages to extract using standard range notation:
• Single Pages: Enter numbers separated by commas, such as `1, 4, 7`.
• Continuous Ranges: Use a hyphen between the start and end pages, such as `1-5` or `12-18`.
• Mixed Selections: Combine single pages and ranges freely, for example `1, 3, 5-10, 15`. The tool compiles all requested pages in order into a single new clean PDF.
| Range Syntax Input | Resulting Extracted Pages | Best Practical Use Case |
| 1-1 | Only Page 1 | Extracting a cover page or executive summary |
| 3, 5, 7 | Pages 3, 5, and 7 | Extracting non-consecutive receipts or vouchers |
| 10-25 | 16 consecutive pages | Extracting a single report chapter or contract addendum |
| 1, 4-6, 10 | Pages 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10 | Custom tailored proposal packet for clients |
Pro Tip: Note that page numbers printed on the bottom of a book page (e.g. Roman numerals "iv" or restarted numbering) may differ from the absolute PDF index. Always verify against your PDF viewer’s toolbar page counter.
Verifying Extracted Document Integrity
After generating your split document, open it in your browser or desktop PDF reader.
Verify that internal hyperlinks and form fields are still active if required. Splitting copies original page dictionary objects directly, ensuring that vector fonts, vector graphics, and embedded color spaces remain completely uncompromised.
